Infrabel awards BESIX the widening of the tracks on the Waterloo - Braine-l'Alleud axis

BESIX has been awarded the design and execution of the civil engineering works required to widen the railway platform between Waterloo and Braine-l'Alleud as part of the four-track upgrade. This four-track upgrade (instead of two at present) will allow future RER trains to run on railway infrastructure independent of that used by direct trains and international trains.

This work includes the widening of the railway platform along 1,200m in Waterloo and 200m in Braine-l'Alleud on which the new tracks will be installed, as well as the construction of engineering structures (bridges, tunnels, etc.) which must also be widened. Finally, the contract also covers the development of the Waterloo station (new passengers’ building, new corridor under the tracks, development of roads around the station, creation of bicycle shelters, etc.) and the construction of a noise protection wall of more than 1,000m.

"We all know the challenges of mobility. In this context, the continuation of the four-lane widening on some sections is a further step in the right direction. The RER will be a concrete solution that BESIX is pleased to be associated with," says Patrick Delperdange, Director of BESIX Wallonia-Luxembourg.

The works will start on May 10 and will last 30 months, for an amount of more than 30 million euros.
