Safety Days: Strengthening skills, awareness and teamwork across BESIX

Discover how BESIX entities across Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France reinforce safety through dedicated Safety Days and training programmes throughout the year, designed to build skills, awareness and stronger teams.

A group-wide commitment to safe working practices

Across BESIX Group, safety is more than a priority. It is a daily practice that shapes how we work on construction sites across all our regions and entities. Through Safety Days and winter training programmes, our teams step away from daily operations to refresh skills, share experience and reinforce safe behaviour on every project.

The, often calmer, winter period is an ideal moment for many of our teams and entities to organise these dedicated trainings, creating valuable time to focus on safe working practices on and around our sites.

Building skills through practical learning

From ergonomic body scans that help prevent back problems to interactive sessions on how to talk openly about safety, this year’s Safety Days offered a wide range of practical learning moments. At BESIX Belgium–Luxembourg, theatre‑based exercises encouraged colleagues to approach safety conversations with more confidence, while quizzes and risk‑management workshops refreshed essential knowledge.

At BESIX France, more than 300 workers and supervisors took part in two days of prevention workshops, practising safe behaviour when working with power tools, PPE, mobile platforms and other higher‑risk activities.

Focused workshops that mirror real site conditions

LuxTP organised Occupational Safety and Health Days combining theory with hands‑on demonstrations. Participants explored confined spaces, manual handling, formwork standards, the use of ST60 shoring towers and the safe handling of hazardous products, making it possible to apply theoretical principles directly to real conditions.

Socogetra devoted two full days to workshops supported by CEPS, covering fall and slip prevention, first aid, back care, safe equipment use and fire prevention. At Jacques Delens, a dedicated Safety Day focused on fire safety and slinging operations, mixing theory and practice to strengthen safe behaviour on site.

BESIX Infra Nederland held its own Safety Day centred on the message that safety is everyone’s job. Sessions addressed aggression management, visibility on site, equipment use and lessons learned from past incidents.

Winter trainings: time to reflect and prepare

Several entities use the winter period to run multi‑week training cycles that bring workers and staff together to reinforce essential safety topics. At BESIX Infra, Belasco and BESIX Unitec, these programmes combine theory with hands‑on practice, covering equipment inspection, digital tools for smarter working, ergonomics, vehicle checks and safe site behaviour.

Many sessions focus on collaboration and clear communication, which remain key ingredients for safe and efficient teamwork. These recurring training cycles evolve each year to reflect operational needs and industry standards. Their impact is clear, as shown by regular external recognition for strong safety performance.

A continuous safety culture throughout the year

Beyond Safety Days and winter trainings, teams across the Group and its entities keep safety at the forefront through ongoing initiatives. Regular Management Safety Walks bring project teams, QHSE colleagues and leadership together on site to observe good practices, discuss improvements and maintain open dialogue. These walks, combined with BE SAFE workshops and a network of committed safety ambassadors, help embed safe behaviour in our daily routines.

Together, these initiatives underline the strong safety culture across our entities. By investing in continuous learning, reinforcing safe behaviour and applying proven construction safety practices, we create safer working environments and stronger teams. These efforts show how safety awareness, prevention and teamwork contribute directly to safer construction sites across our Group.
