Developed by the Abu Dhabi Culture and Tourism Department, the Zayed National Museum pays tribute to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father. The museum will illuminate his enduring legacy and the remarkable story of the Emirates, told through immersive exhibitions, innovative research and engaging public programmes.
The museum will feature six permanent galleries, a dedicated space for temporary exhibitions, and an outdoor gallery, all curated to narrate the UAE’s journey. Visitors will also enjoy two kilometres of walkways and the Timeline Garden, which spans 40,250 m³ of landscaped grounds with fountains and kiosks for relaxation and reflection.
Designed by renowned architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the Zayed National Museum’s striking silhouette comprises five steel structures inspired by the falcon’s wing – an emblem of Emirati heritage and tradition. The museum’s architecture seamlessly blends innovation and sustainability with cultural significance, reflecting the UAE’s dedication to both progress and preservation.
Construction began in March 2021, with BESIX Middle East working in partnership with Trojan General Contracting to bring this vision to life. As the countdown to the museum’s opening continues, BESIX looks forward to seeing this landmark welcome visitors from around the world. The Zayed National Museum will not only honour the past and present of the UAE but will also serve as a dynamic platform for cultural exchange and shared understanding for generations to come.
