Project Doha, Qatar

Doha Expressway Upgrade

Improving Doha’s connectivity

Six Construct delivered the Doha Expressway upgrade project in Qatar. It was carried out in collaboration with Boom Construction Company and consisted of upgrading 2.9 km of one of the main arteries in Doha. Six Construct delivered key interchanges that provide direct connectivity to Al Wajbah Street, Al Shafi Street and Al Qalaa Street.

Scope of works

The site team’s major role was to construct two massive concrete underpasses, each 650 m long, 50 m wide and up to 15 m deep. Both underpasses have been fully built, and each underpass was built using 260,000 m³ of concrete and 20,000 t of reinforcement, on top of which 80,000 t of asphalt was laid. Apart from the underpasses, the team also completed three cable tunnels, reaching a total length of 1.1 km. They also built three critical substations and pulled all LV/MV cables required to power the street lighting. The road now offers dedicated pedestrian walkways and cycle paths to foster a healthy lifestyle for the people of Qatar and further reduce traffic congestion.

A grand opening

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, His Excellency Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, the Minister of Municipality and Environment, His Excellency Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, and the President of Ashghal Eng His Excellency Saad Bin Ahmed Bin Ibrahim Al-Muhannadi.

Recognition for the site team

Additionally, the Six Construct-Boom Construction Company joint venture also received a certificate of appreciation from Ashghal for “The Best Project Across The Expressway Program Toward Workers Welfare” – Platinum Level, as well as a certificate for achieving 4 million man-hours without lost time incidents, whilst constructing and upgrading the Doha Expressway.
