Located on the eastern coast of the UAE, the Fujairah Naval Base required a secure and functional harbour basin to support naval operations. BESIX was tasked with constructing two breakwaters - measuring 1,100 metres and 600 metres respectively -and dredging the basin to depths of –10 meters (partly to –6 metres). The dredged material was reused to raise the onshore harbour platform by approximately 2 metres, optimizing both cost and environmental impact.
Design and construction of two breakwaters (1,100 m and 600 m)
Creation of a 360,000 m² harbour basin
Dredging to depths of –10 m and –6 m
Reuse of dredged material for land reclamation
Elevation of the onshore harbour platform by 2 metres
Integrated marine engineering: The project combined breakwater construction, dredging, and land reclamation into a cohesive marine infrastructure solution.
Efficient resource use: Dredged material was repurposed for platform elevation, reducing environmental impact and material transport costs.
Strategic infrastructure: The new harbour basin enhanced the operational readiness and maritime security capabilities of the Fujairah Naval Base.
Precision execution: The project required careful coordination of marine logistics and geotechnical expertise to meet performance and safety standards.
