Located on the E42/E25 motorway between Liège and Namur, a major axis crossing Wallonia from east to west, the viaduct carries an average daily traffic of 60,000 vehicles. Built between 1968 and 1971, the structure consists of two parallel viaducts, one for each direction of traffic, with a total length of 547 metres and a height of 60 metres. The work involved several challenges. One of them is to minimise disruption to motorway traffic: thanks to an extremely precise planning, motorway traffic has been maintained on two lanes in each direction throughout the work. Some operations were particularly impressive, such as the replacement of the 72 beams of the viaduct, each weighing 60 tonnes, with the largest cranes available.
