BESIX Belgium-Luxembourg leads the full renovation of The Hive, a 60,147 m² office building owned by BNP Paribas Fortis. The project features a circular material approach and Early Contractor Involvement, aiming to reduce environmental impact and better integrate the building into the neighbourhood with mixed-use, semi-public spaces.
The project covers the complete renovation and rehabilitation of the existing building, including asbestos removal, technical upgrades, and architectural transformation across thirteen floors. It introduces more daylight, creates two new patios, relocates the unloading dock, and integrates semi-public functions such as a work-café, event space, conference centre, and auditorium. The approach emphasises circular material reuse, urban mining and compliance with Brussels heritage conservation and circularity provisions.
Strategic partnership: The project continues a longstanding collaboration between BESIX and BNP Paribas Fortis, following previous landmark projects in Brussels.
Circular renovation: The Hive’s transformation is guided by a comprehensive circularity strategy, with materials like marble plates and technical elements being dismantled, stored, and reused within the building or repurposed for other sites.
Mixed-use integration: The renewed building will blend office functions with semi-public amenities, including a work-café, co-working spaces, and event facilities, fostering stronger ties with the local community.
Sustainability leadership: Early Contractor Involvement ensures optimal coordination among all stakeholders, enabling innovative solutions that minimize environmental impact and support Corporate Social Responsibility.
Urban regeneration: The project aims to significantly reduce the building’s environmental footprint while revitalizing its role in the neighborhood, setting a benchmark for sustainable urban redevelopment in Brussels.
