Located 130 km from the Strait of Hormuz, Fujairah is the UAE’s only multi-purpose port on the eastern coast. To accommodate VLCCs, a new deepwater jetty was constructed, enhancing the port’s capacity for crude oil exports. The project included civil engineering, marine equipment installation, electromechanical works, and integration with the port’s Matrix Manifold 2 system.
Construction of a deepwater jetty for VLCCs
Installation of marine structures and electromechanical systems
Piling works in 26 meters of water, with piles driven to 65 meters
Connection to the port’s Matrix Manifold 2
Use of advanced marine equipment, including the RIMA self-elevating platform
Challenging marine conditions: The project required deep piling in open water, demanding precision and robust construction techniques.
Innovative foundation design: Based on extensive testing, the team opted for driven piles instead of drilled ones, improving efficiency and reliability.
Advanced equipment: The RIMA high-tech self-elevating platform, equipped with a new driving guide, was deployed for pile installation.
Integrated teamwork: Close collaboration between BESIX’s in-house Design Department and the construction team ensured that the methods aligned with both site conditions and client expectations.
Fast-track delivery: Despite the complexity, the jetty was completed in just 18 months, demonstrating strong project management and execution.
