In the Dutch province of North Brabant, construction has kicked off on the GOL project. This major infrastructure initiative aims to improve traffic flow and quality of life, while taking into account nature conservation and water safety.
At the construction site in Waalwijk, North Brabant’s Provincial Executive member Wilma Dirken and Mourik Infra Director Walter Deelen, representing the Mourik BESIX consortium, marked the official start of the works by jointly raising the project flag. This symbolic moment represents an important milestone for a large‑scale project that will help build a safer and more resilient region for the future.

The GOL project runs between Waalwijk and ’s‑Hertogenbosch and brings together nature restoration, water safety, accessibility and liveability. By improving several points on and along the A59, the project will enhance traffic safety. It will also strengthen high‑water protection for ’s‑Hertogenbosch and its surrounding areas.
Within the Mourik-BESIX consortium, BESIX NL is working closely with the Province of North Brabant, the municipalities of Heusden, Waalwijk and ’s‑Hertogenbosch, the Aa en Maas Water Board and Rijkswaterstaat.
In Waalwijk, the first visible works are now underway. These activities will help maintain smooth traffic flow during construction and create space for the future redesign of the A59 junctions. The project also includes two ecological corridors, featuring an eco‑tunnel beneath the A59, along with new water‑retention areas. Finally, BESIX and Mourik will deliver a cycling route and a new ring road for the city of Vlijmen.
Throughout the works, BESIX and Mourik are committed to quality, safety, sustainability and minimising disruption for local communities. Together, we are building a safer, more accessible and greener infrastructure for the Netherlands.
