Awarded to the Six Construct – PORR joint venture, the Deep Tunnel Storm Water System represents a significant step forward in sustainable urban infrastructure. The project involved the construction of a 10-kilometre tunnel with a boring diameter of 11.05 metres, located between 30 and 45 metres below ground level. Designed to improve storm water management across Dubai, the system serves an urban area of approximately 380 km², covering almost 40% of the city.
The project comprised the design and construction of a deep storm water collection and conveyance system. At its core is a 10 km tunnel excavated at depths ranging from 30 to 45 metres. In addition, four deep shafts, between 40 and 45 metres deep, were constructed to connect the collection chambers. These chambers gather groundwater and storm water and channel it efficiently through the system, providing a long-term solution for water management in one of the world's fastest-growing urban environments.
