Developed by Virya Energy, in collaboration with HyoffGreen and Messer, the project will convert renewable electricity from offshore wind into green hydrogen for industrial and mobility applications. BESIX, BESIX Environment, and John Cockerill lead the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up of the green hydrogen production plant. BESIX brings its proven capability in complex projects, while John Cockerill contributes with its world-class alkaline electrolyser technology, bringing together capabilities that ensure the project’s success.
Civil and structural works: BESIX handles all foundations, building structures, and site development, ensuring robust infrastructure for the facility.
Electromechanical works: BESIX Environment has designed, procured and install the whole Balance of plant equipments, piping and BMS systems. In addition of installation of all free issued process components and systems, including interconnecting piping, mechanical assemblies, and utility integration.
EPC Delivery: In partnership with John Cockerill, BESIX and BESIX Environment execute the full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contract, from concept design to commissioning.
Commissioning Support: BESIX Environment teams assist in testing and start-up phases to guarantee operational readiness.
Initial production capacity: 25 MW, with the potential to scale up to 100 MW
Annual output: approx. 3,700 tonnes of green hydrogen
Expected CO₂ reduction: 25,000 tonnes per year
First hydrogen molecules in 2026
Supported by NextGenerationEU and Flemish Energy Holding with €30 million in subsidies
