BESIX Watpac carried out several modernisation projects within Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal between 2015 and 2020. The programme included upgrades to passenger and retail areas, as well as the modernisation of the baggage handling system between 2016 and 2017. Delivered in a busy airport environment with continuous operations and high passenger volumes, the works required careful planning to ensure minimal impact on airport activities and the passenger experience.
The programme combined visible improvements to passenger-facing spaces with upgrades to critical operational systems. Works included the fit-out of 48 retail units and the refurbishment of the food court, alongside the modernisation of the airport’s baggage handling system. Delivered across both landside and airside areas, the works were carefully phased to maintain passenger flows, airport operations and commercial activities. Progressive integration of new baggage equipment, combined with close coordination with the airport operator, ensured continuity of service throughout the project.
