Motorway ViA15 GelreGroen

Extension and upgrading of the A15 and A12 corridors through a DBFM contract
The ViA15 project strengthens one of the Netherlands’ key mobility routes by extending the A15 to the A12 and widening both motorways. BESIX, as a key member of the GelreGroen consortium, contributes to significant accessibility improvement in the region, creating a direct corridor between the Port of Rotterdam and Germany.

Project overview

On 3 July 2025, Rijkswaterstaat and GelreGroen – comprising BESIX, Dura Vermeer, HOCHTIEF, Van Oord and John Laing – signed an updated DBFM contract for ViA15. The consortium is responsible for the design, construction, financing, and 20‑year operation and maintenance of the infrastructure. BESIX played an important role in structuring the financing and also acts as a shareholder in the project.

Scope of the works

With ViA15, Rijkswaterstaat is working on a robust solution for the daily traffic jams in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region in the east of the Netherlands. The project involves the construction of a new section of motorway (A15) and the widening of parts of the existing A12 and A15. In addition, a bridge approximately 2.5 kilometres long will be built over the Pannerdensch Canal and a sunken motorway will be realised over a length of more than three kilometres at Groessen/Helhoek. Finally, a parallel fast cycle route will be built alongside the motorway.

Key highlights

  • Extension of the A15 and widening of the A12 and A15 corridors

  • New bridge over the Pannerdens Canal

  • Strong focus on nature-inclusive and environmentally sensitive design

  • DBFM contract with BESIX Invest as shareholder

  • GelreGroen responsible for 20-year maintenance period

  • Parallel construction of a bicycle highway commissioned by the province of Gelderland
